David Fleishman, a freelance designer born in Toronto, is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and the Ontario College of Art and Design. In 1997, he started his own company developing several furniture and product designs.

His hanging display system was awarded a patent that led to sales throughout the United States and Canada and earned him the attention of larger manufacturers. Umbra Ltd. has marketed his designs world-wide.

David comes from a school of minimalist design; sculpture and architecture are his main muses. While studying at the Rhode Island School of Design, he was inspired by the work of abstract photographer, Aaron Siskind, helping him to create his own esthetics of a clean, economical design. David has taught art and interior design and has worked as a set designer, filmmaker and script writer. His films and writings may be found here: https://davidfleishmanwritingsandfilm.wordpress.com/

His designs have been featured multiple times in Opra's O AT HOME, IN STYLE MAGAZINE, CANADIAN INTERIORS, MODERNISM MAGAZINE, THE GLOBE AND MAIL, DESIGN LINES and ARCHIPENDIUM DESIGN.

He lives with his wife and son in Toronto.
